Sledgehammer Coup Plan: Another Ergenekon Plot

Sledgehammer is the name of a Turkish secularist military coup plan which dates back to 2003. Reports of the alleged plot first surfaced in the liberal Taraf newspaper, which said it had discovered documents detailing plans to bomb two Istanbul mosques and provoke Greece into shooting down a Turkish plane over the Aegean Sea . The plan was to stir up chaos and justify a military coup.

The army said the plans had been discussed but only as part of a planning exercise at a military seminar.
The plot is similar, and possibly linked, to the reported Ergenekon Organization, in which military figures and staunch secularists planned to foment unrest, leading to a coup.

On 22 February 2010, more than 40 officers were arrested and then were formally charged with attempting to overthrow the government. They include four admirals, a general and two colonels, some of them retired, including former commanders of the Turkish navy and air force.

Three days later, the former commanders of the navy and air force were released. On 31 March and 1 April 28 suspects in the investigation were released. A judge released 19 of the suspects due to the “existence of serious doubt regarding the crime”. 9 others were released due to their “social standing.”

On 5 April an additional 95 people (including 86 military personnel, 70 of them on active duty), were detained in 14 provinces on the same day. 9 released earlier were rearrested on 6 April.

Retired Gen. Cetin Dogan (above) was arrested twice earlier this year on coup charges -- he stands accused of penning the Sledgehammer document -- but was later released from prison for reasons of health.

Now you see the real face of the attackers of Gulen Charter Schools. Most of them are so scared that they decided to attack others. Those attackers are the enemies of Christians and Jews, therefore they attack those who are striving to be in good terms with Christians and Jews. Fethullah Gulen is one of those who have excellent relationships with Christians and Jews and that is why they decided to get him back to Turkey. But how are they going to do that? By constantly defaming him and other religious people who are getting on well with Americans. For the very same reason, they decided to put pseudo Gulen Charter Schools under pressure in the name of tax money. Wake up America! Those so-called Gulen Charter Schools attackers don't care about the tax money. What they care about Fethullah Gulen and alleged Gulen Charter Schools, who are actually owned by the state and regularly inspected and audited by the state and government officials.
